Canon II of the Council in Trullo confirms by name the collections of canons the Church receives: the apostolic canons, the canons of the ecumenical and named local councils, and the canons of a list of Fathers.

Several of the collections it confirms contain canons that list the books of Scripture — among them canons of the local councils of Laodicea and Carthage. The confirmation is therefore the closest the received conciliar tradition comes to settling the question, and it does so indirectly, by confirming collections rather than by issuing a list.
